Custom Rug Finishing

When creating custom sized area rugs made from broadloom carpet, the edges need to be finished. Lead time for machine applied binding in about 4 weeks, this assumes the material is in stock in the US and ready to ship at time of order. Please read below for options and images.

  • Machine applied serging (wool, cotton or poly yarn) & narrow cotton binding.
    • We serge area rugs most often and find this method the strongest and most durable.
    • Cotton serge yarn is offered in more colors and has a tighter hold on material compared to wool.
    • Flat woven material or harder to match materials we suggest cotton.
    • Wool is a great choice for thicker and or piled material and high traffic areas.
    • Polypropylene yarn is selected for indoor outdoor material.

  • Hand Sewn cotton binding, offered for glove fit area rugs and stair runners. This method has invisible stitching and very low profile

  • Wide binding with blind stitching and mitered corners(shown in cotton below), can also be done in linen, polypropylene & leather

  • Hand applied serging is available on select items.
